FLUECHEM ACHIEVES SUCCESSFUL CAUSTIC SODA DELIVERY IN DEMANDING JAPANESE MARKET

Otaru, Hokkaido, Japan (April 27, 2024): Fluechem, a leading global provider of practical and cost-effective solutions for marine emission compliance chemicals, announces the successful completion of its first bulk caustic soda 50% delivery to a cruise ship in Japan. This milestone delivery underscores Fluechem's commitment to delivering a global service for customers in the expanding marine emission control sector.

Expanding Global Footprint in Complex Markets

Fluechem is strategically expanding its global reach, focusing on the bulk supply of caustic soda 50% – a hazardous material – in highly regulated markets. Cruise ship ports, in particular, present increasingly diverse and logistically challenging environments.

Following safe and successful deliveries of caustic soda 50% to cruise ships in Durban and Cape Town, South Africa, a repeat client approached Fluechem for a critical supply of 80 metric tons to another cruise ship docked in Otaru, Japan.

Navigating Complexities in Japan

Caustic soda 50% is a controlled substance in Japan. The approval and permit process to transport the product from the mainland manufacturing plant to Otaru was intricate, requiring extensive planning and risk assessments across all stages of delivery, including collection, transportation, port access, and vessel transfer.

Fluechem’s Far East manager collaborated closely with their established Japanese partner to ensure all aspects were meticulously addressed. Security of supply was paramount due to the vessel’s scheduled itinerary.

Overcoming Delivery Constraints

Adding to the complexity, the delivery window alongside the docked vessel was tightly restricted. Passenger movement and storage operations had to be completed outside the caustic soda 50% pumping operation to minimize personnel exposure to potential hazards.

Despite these constraints, the pumping operation commenced and concluded within the designated window, ensuring a safe and efficient delivery.

Partnership and Expertise Deliver Success

“This operation exemplifies the benefits of meticulous planning by personnel with a deep understanding of regional and local customs and practices,” said Niall Roberts, CEO of Fluechem. “This was a mission-critical delivery for our client, showcasing the advantages of offering a truly global service with trusted and experienced local partners overseen by our regional management team.”

Marking a Milestone in a Growing Market

This successful delivery of bulk caustic soda 50% to a vessel in Otaru, Japan, signifies another significant milestone for Fluechem. It establishes the company’s presence in a highly regulated market experiencing increased cruise ship activity. Feedback from the client commended the operation’s speed and efficiency, further solidifying Fluechem’s commitment to its established eight Unique Selling Points that underpin all deliveries.
